Replace Flash Storage (SSD) & CPU on 2017 iMac 27" 5k Retina

I have a 2017 27" iMac (Retina 5k). I bought it new with a 500GB "flash storage" drive (which I guess is SSD?)

While I have a ton of external drives to store a lot of my documents, because the internal drive just won't carry it all, I'm still constantly monitoring how much space I have left locally (because my system starts to bog down). A lot of the storage use is from software and apps, and Mail files. So I'm interested in replacing whatever storage I have for something bigger (likely 2TB). However, anytime I look up a 2017 iMac 5K Retina SSD replacement tutorial, it seems like all of the systems have a traditional HDD installed instead (to it just tells you how to go from an HDD to an SSD). How does this work if my system CAME with an SSD?

Also, if it's possible to even swap my SSD and simple enough to do myself, while I have everything open, I'd also like to attempt to upgrade my CPU while I'm at it. Currently I have 3.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel i5. I'd like to get it to at least an i7 or later.

BONUS: Would it be worth upgrading my graphics, too? I have a Redeon Pro 570 4GB.

Ultimate goals...faster boot up and auto saves for when I'm running larger After Effects projects (I'm starting to notice the lag), and the ability to play more, larger games on Steam.

Thoughts?

@sydtropolis If your system came with an SSD, then the easiest thing to do would be to add a second SSD where a HDD would go.

Since Macs use proprietary drives, that would be the easier option compared to trying to locate a large proprietary Mac SSD. You can get a 2TB 2.5" SSD and follow this guide to install it.

To use the drive, simply select that drive for your application installs / Steam library / After Effects projects etc.

For the CPU, that looks like it's possible as well following this guide. The best CPU will be the i7 7700K according to this answer by @danj, which you will most likely have to purchase used since it's been a while since they were released. IMO, the CPU upgrade may not be really worthwhile unless the price is low.

Unfortunately, graphics are not upgradable on iMacs so there's not much you can do there.

Hope that helps!
