Battery disappears after Big Sur OS update?!?

My computer just updated the OS to 11.7.9 and the battery just freakin’ disappeared. On system info, it says there’s no battery

. I did replace the battery a few months ago with an ifixit model but I just used it a couple days ago and it was fine.

things I tried - reboot. Reboot with nvram reset.

any ideas?

Update (08/13/23)

Hi @danj - thanks for the speedy response. I didn't get to installing Coconut Battery until this morning. Here's the screenshot from Coconut Battery. It's indicating:no-battery. I tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting - still nothing. With the battery disconnected I also popped a Fluke multimeter between various test points on the battery circuit board to measure the voltages. Between the 0V, and 4V,8V, and 12V test points on the battery board all per the indicated correct values respectively. Voltage between the p+ and p- points on the board indicate 12 volts.

I suspect there was a toxic peripheral firmware upgrade bundled with this latest version of Mac OS that kills iFixit battery I installed a few months ago because the battery disappeared right after I took the latest OS upgrade.

Either that or I just got a bad battery pack from iFixit. TBH I can't remember if I bought this from iFixit or some other source. Regardless, it is odd though because it worked for months after I did the install.

@leifster - Well the batteries microcontroller is bad which is why things aren’t working. Dig through your paperwork to figure out where you got the battery as you’ll need a new one, sorry for the bad news.😫😩
