Dismantling a iBook keyboard

Hello !

I have got a iBook keyboard witch some keys in the same vertical line (8,I,K) don't work.

Is it possible to dismantle such a keyboard in order to repair it ?

Thank you for your answer.

Please give us the last three figures of your serial number so we know exactly which machine you have.

Last three figures of the keyboard serial number are PKA. It comes from a iBook G4 machine.

Thank you for your help.

I need the serial number for the machine, not the keyboard.

Solución Elegida

Unresponsive Keys in the same line or another pattern point to a defective inner mat / active layer. Don't know the right term for it. This is the rubber (sandwiched) mat with the microswitches and connector / cable. Unfortunately i never found a way to salvage those, neither by disassemling (impossible) or cleaning.

Usually this points to a liquid damage. I don't think you have another chance than purchasing another keyboard. They shoudn't be too expensive, though.

I agree remacberlin. Traces inside the keyboard plastic layers are probably dissolved at one point causing an open circuit on the vertical line (8,I,K). Replacement keyboard is required.

Unfortunately I can't give the serial number of the machine, because I took it from a second hand iBook that I don't have anymore and I am not sure it was the original keyboard.

It's a pity I can't save it according to remacberlin and lemerise because its aspect is the one of a brand new.

I am going to keep it for the keys.

A lot of thanks to all of you.

You'll find the serial number of your machine by clicking (in the menu) Apple->About this Mac->More Information. It is diplayed on the first screen.
