Can I stuff a 2020 iMac into a 2014 or 15 27”

I have both a late 2014 and late 2015 iMac with retina display and have a chance at a 2020 iMac retina display with a cracked screen. The 2020 screen is outrageously expensive so I wondered if I could swap the internals into the 14 or 15 and use, the 14 or 15 screen. Thanks!

Thank you, likely foiled by the T2 again!

Sorry 😢 square peg round hole problem!

The 21.5” & 27” screens are not compatible with the 2020 24” iMac. Between the size differences the mounting and connections are very different. And no, you can’t do the reverse fitting a 2020 24” system into your older iMac body that just adds more complication!

Review the tear-downs we offer here to see for your self.

Sorry, I was referring to the 2020 Intel 27 inch retina display, not the new Apple silicon

It seems logical that they may be interchangeable, but I don't suspect they are. I don't have practical evidence for this. But Based on my experience with other Macs from this time frame, it's unlikely. Any parts vendor I can find does not list them as cross compatible.

Just doing a quick check of schematics, they use the same connectors, but the pinouts are not the same. And most Macs with T2 chips have parts compatibility issues with previous Macs.
