While an iFixit contributor has made a guide here, there's generally no a need to disassemble a 3DS game cartridge for cleaning. If the problem is cleanliness, it's the externally visible contacts that are typically the culprit. Saturating a cotton swab with high-concentration isopropyl alcohol or electrical contact cleaner and going over the contacts of the cartridge can be a sufficient solution to a lack of function on that front. If you haven't done so, give that a try before pursuing more intrusive measures. Give the cartridge a few minutes to dry completely and try it again. If you have to get into the cartridge, it may very well be some other kind of problem that you're dealing with.

Opening a 3DS game cartridge requires careful handling to avoid damaging the cartridge or its contents. Here are some general steps to help you open a 3DS game cartridge:

  1. Gather the necessary tools: You will need a small Phillips head screwdriver and a plastic prying tool or a thin, flat object such as a credit card or guitar pick.
  2. Turn off the 3DS console: Make sure your Nintendo 3DS console is turned off and disconnected from any power source.
  3. Remove the game cartridge from the console: Take the 3DS game cartridge out of the console by gently pressing down on the cartridge and sliding it out.
  4. Locate the screws: Flip the game cartridge over and look for the small screws that hold it together. There are usually two screws positioned near the label side of the cartridge.
  5. Unscrew the cartridge: Use the small Phillips head screwdriver to carefully unscrew the screws from the cartridge. Keep the screws in a safe place to avoid losing them.
  6. Opening the cartridge: Once the screws are removed, you can use the plastic prying tool or a thin, flat object to gently pry open the cartridge. Start at the seam where the two halves of the cartridge meet and carefully work your way around the edges. Apply light pressure to avoid damaging any internal components.
  7. Accessing the internals: With the cartridge open, you can access the internal components such as the game chip. Take note that the internal components are delicate, so handle them with care.
  8. Reassembling the cartridge: After you have finished inspecting or modifying the internals, align the two halves of the cartridge and press them together until you hear a click. Make sure the cartridge is securely closed.
  9. Screw the cartridge back together: Using the small Phillips head screwdriver, reinsert and tighten the screws into their original positions on the back of the cartridge.

Please note that opening a 3DS game cartridge may void any warranty it may have, and it is generally not recommended unless you have a specific reason or expertise in handling such components. Be cautious and proceed at your own risk.
