Faulty PSU or loss of SSDs

English:

I just bought an iMac Pro 2017 without its SSDs.

The question is whether it’s because of missing SSDs or PSU itself since the LEDs on the logic board doesn’t turn on nor flash.

However it’s fans tries to run and it’s recognized when I connect it to another Mac with Apple Configurator

Will it do if I get its original SSDs and follow the instruction below?

Apple Config User Guide

Thank you.

I think you first need to get it’s original Flash Modules. There is no true SSD here which makes this doubly hard! Review the Desmontaje iMac Pro Step 8.

I don’t know of anyone being able to swap-out the modules with a different set. The modules are similar to the Mac Studio and newer Mac Pro. A few people tried to upgrade the modules with no success, the only action that did work was swapping out with the same sized modules (like for like).

As the system is responding via the configurator service it’s likely safe to say the PSU is fine. But to be sure you will need to check the PSU headers on the logic board checking the voltages.

Thank you so much sir!

I'm currently trying to reach out to the previous owner if he still has them, if not I found fine condition mac pro modules online so I'm going to stick with them.

One more question.

According to your advice PSU seems to be fine, but why aren't the LEDs working atm... Is it because of no Flash Modules are set?

Thank you in advance!

@jqv200see5hyzod - The onboard diagnostic LEDs are dependent on having RAM, storage and the display present. The different LEDs are a walk up through POST process. So if the earliest LED fails to light the follow up LED validation is supect.

@danj

Thank you so much sir! I can’t thank you enough for your advice!

I just received used Mac Pro flash modules in the morning and installed, then it works!

First I was struggling with reinstalling MacOS which is because I was trying recovery mode with Command + R, but I finally did with Command + Option + R!

I just noticed that it generates way more heat than 2015 27’ i7 anyways haha.

Thank you so much! I appreciate you a heaps!
