Can you boot without a battery cable?

I bought one of these for really cheap recently from an ewaste place. When I plugged it in it would constantly boot loop. I opened it up and saw that both the battery data cable and the trackpad cable were cut. I just want to know before I buy any parts for the computer, if the computer could boot without the battery data cable, so I know if it's causing the boot issues. Thank you

Possibly needs the battery data cable. If the Mac can't find battery percentage, it may not boot.

Correct! SMC needs the input to boot. Get the needed cable MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Touch Bar, Mid 2018) Battery Daughter Board Cable
