Did you have it plugged into your Mac or PC?
FYI - You can use your nano or iPod hard drive as a transfer drive to move files between systems. Not to be confused iTunes files which are held in a hidden partition on your nano flash or the iPod's hard drive

Try Resetting your iPod. Hold down the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons until you see the Apple logo appear. Let us know what works so we can continue to help you if needed. Good Luck.
