I have a non-tappable stripe on my screen

After changing the battery, I now have a barely-visible stripe down the middle (about one fourth from the left), 1 millimetre wide. I can't tap anywhere on that stripe, so for example I can't type the letter E. I also can't turn off the device because I can't "grab" the slider.

I've tried taking the phone apart again and making sure all the connectors are in place.

Help! I don't want to get rid of this device, especially since I JUST changed the battery.

Hmm unfortunately it may sound like the screen was damaged in the process. The fortunate part is that they are pretty cheap and easily installable from some third party companies. When you say stripe is it like a bright line? A pixel or two wide? If that’s the case then definitely LCD or digitizer damage. Last suggestion is to clean the connectors lightly with alcohol if the screen is physically ok as I stated above(no visible lines or cracks). If this doesn’t work then a new screen should fix the issue. Best of luck!

More like 10 or 20 pixels, but it's hardly visible, and only sometimes. Does that still sound like screen damage?

@ovesh Yes I’d still say screen damage. You could mess with it more and see what causes it to be intermittent but I’m banking on screen damage. Also make sure the plates(covers over the cables) are put back correctly and secured when testing further.

I have an old iPhone SE laying around. I think I'd like to try and see if I can grab the screen from there and replacing it. If I do it without replacing the home button assembly, would the phone as a whole still function? If only for verification to see if it fixes it. If I understand correctly, the only thing that wouldn't work is touch ID, is that correct?

Yeah you’re correct! If you swap the home button into the new (other) screen it’ll function the same as it was before with Touch ID and everything. But for testing purposes it is not needed and will function as a home button but no Touch ID.

I changed the screen... and I still have the exact same problem. So at least I've ruled out that it's a problem with the screen. What else can it be?
