Preguntas 432 Ver todo

iMac mid 2011 21.5, what is the gap for thermal pads on vram?

I got the dreaded stripes and tried the baking method and amazingly it worked. But it came back and I think it's because I used regular thermal paste on my vram instead of pads or thick paste.

I'm going to get the pads but looked everywhere and can't find if I need 1mm, 1.5mm, or 2mm.

Thanks!

**Update**

I got the K4 and K5 paste and redid the whole thing properly. Unfortunately I still have the stripes.

**Question**

I wonder if I actually zapped the gpu.

**What happened**

On that first attempt it worked fine and I only booted it up and observed but after a short while (less than 1 hour) the stripes came back. I know I didn't apply enough paste (which was confirmed when I took it out).

On my second attempt I re-baked it, applied the proper amount of K4 to gpu and K5 to vram and still got the stripes.

**Next Steps**

1) Buy a used card and try a third time (I assume the risk is that a used card is also fried).

2) Re-bake my card again

3) Take it to Apple and expect them to charge me hundreds which I'm unwilling to pay for a 2011. But maybe it'll be less.

Any wisdom y'all have is appreciated!

thanks. from their site it says, "The minus pad extreme is available in size 120 x 20 mm and 100 x 100 mm with thicknesses of 0,5mm, 1mm, 1,5mm, 2mm, 3mm."

which size did you use?

@justin06pdx - I always dry fit and either use a gap gage or some strips of card stock to fill the space to gage the size needed. I mostly find this series uses a 1.0 or 1.5 depending on the board used.

Gotcha. Mine was the AMD Radeon HD 6750M (or 6770M) with 4 vram chips.

Trying to figure out which pad to get sent me down a long rabbit hole so I just ordered the K4/K5 Pro thermal paste that is used to replace gaps. Apparently it's not great for high end stuff but I'm on a 12 year old iMac used for basic office stuff so hoping it works fine as many reports say it does.
