Would replace the logic board remove the remote managed/MDM?

I've come across a few remote managed (MDM) iPads and I pass them up. Could jailbreaking it, or changing any hardware piece inside of the iPad like the logic board or say hdd memory, fix this problem?

Hi Nikki,

I'm not an expert on jailbreaking, but my understanding is that it's highly dependent on the version of iOS that's being used, and means you won't be able to update the operating system, at least not without going through the jailbreaking process again. Many times you have to repeat it if the tablet gets restarted, so all in all not a good long-term choice.

Apple has never supported any kind of plug-in memory on its devices that run iOS, and the iPad is no exception. It doesn't actually have an HDD, but rather uses solid state memory that's soldered onto the motherboard, so it's generally not considered to be replaceable. It can be, but requires specialized equipment and skills that are far beyond most of us home do-it-yourselfers.

That leaves your last idea, of replacing the logic board. That is definitely feasible and will do what you want, but be aware of some caveats here. First of all, the home button is paired to the specific logic board in the iPad it comes with, so if you want Touch ID to work you must buy both the logic board and it's paired home button. Of course, you need to make sure the one you're purchasing doesn't have it's own MDM management and isn't iCloud locked to a previous user. I haven't priced logic boards for iPads, but I suspect a good usable one may be somewhat expensive; together with the price of a locked complete iPad, you might end up paying more than you would to just buy a working one.

Hopefully that answers all your questions; if you need any more information, just ask.
