start iPhone 5 with broken glas

I have moved to a newer iphone. But I have some SMS and photos which have not been backed up on Icloud. Is there any way to start the phone without using the front display so that I can download SMS and photos from the memory in the phone?

try 3utools (it's free). if you can get the phone to boot, while connected to your pc, you can pull individual stuff (pictures, videos, etc) directly out of the phone. it can also do whole phone backups (not sure if the backups can be read/restored by itunes)

Just press the power button and let it boot, then use itunes to make a backup of the iPhone and flash it on your iPhone.

I started Itunes but it requested that the lock code for the phone is entered. But since the display is damaged and does not work I cannot unlock the phone. Is it possible to get around this problem?

@laxen sadly, that's the only way I know..

@laxen you can only do that if you don't have any kind of screen lock. If your phone requires you to enter a passcode, you cannot do that without the display.

very true. and also if the phone wants you to trust the computer.

@beekerc that's right. I forgot about that Trust issue :-) Good point

Well actually there may be a way - go get a lightning to USB adapter and connect any generic USB keyboard to it - not sure it still works, but well worth a try.

If possible - try connecting that keyboard to a working iPhone and test and if it works - wait for your phone to boot up, blindly enter your passcode and you should be good 👍

P.S.: and actually even without a display you can see what you phone would show if you connect your iPhone to a Mac and run QuickTime to capture iPhone’s screen. Here’s how:

It may be necessary that you have connected your phone to this Mac before and made your iPhone trust this computer- keep that in mind
