iMac won’t boot into internet recovery mode.

Hey guys,

So my Late 2012 iMac wasn’t booting up at all (I’ve tried everything to no avail), and when I took it to the Apple Store they said that the hard drive was failing. So I decided to backup everything and get a new SSD. The new SSD is in the Mac but I cannot do anything. Internet recovery mode stops at the end (the apple logo appears and the spinning wheel but its frozen) and I don’t think it’ll get past that. I was thinking maybe I could somehow use target disk mode to fix it but when I use target disk mode it my other Mac doesn’t see it (possibly because the internal SSD is not mounted?). I am really stuck and angry since it took me a lot of time to install the SSD. Is there any way I can fix this? I can boot into verbose mode to try and see if any of you guys can spot an error too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S The initial drive wasn’t working either (same issue, cant boot into anything). However, after using internet recovery mode I left it overnight and I saw that the display was off but the computer was still giving power (the mouse was powered on). Faulty GPU maybe?

@biscuit_eater28 - What SSD did you install make & model?

Also what happens when you try running the onboard diagnostics? Restart the system and press the D key to enter. Let us know what happened.

Try creating a bootable USB on a working mac. If you are unable to find it through apple the best outside option is through DosDude's website. He made a convenient package that allows you to download the firmware outside of Apples ecosystem and create a bootable installer.
We have seen some odd hardware issues that can cause the computer to not properly install MacOS but I don't think that is the issue here.

As far as I understand Recovery mode does not run off external GPU but off the integrated graphics.
