Can you interchange parts between the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS max?

I wanna swap some parts but I'm not sure if it would work.

Hi Jon,

Short answer is no. Although the phones share most of the same technology, each phone is designed and optimized for the space and size of the device. So for the Max, they've got extra room for a larger battery and more room for the motherboard.

Which means the size of the logic board is different, the placement of connectors on it changes and that means the length of the flex cables and their positions for all the other parts inside the phone also changed.

In general, although you might be able to physically fit parts from one to the other, the flex cable has been routed to a different place and won't connect up to the motherboard.

So unless you find a part for sale that specifically says it works in both the XS and XS Max, it's not going to be interchangeable. There might be a couple of parts like the Taptic Engine and the rear camera lens covers, but I can't think of much else that would be usable between the two phones. Basically, if it has a flex cable, it's not going to fit.
