MEDC465HWO Dryer won't heat or rotate.

Maytag Electric dryer won't heat or rotate. It's not the thermal fuse door switch start switch or any of the three thermostats. They all passed a continuity check. The light works and you can hear the timer doing it's thing (or possibly broke). I've verified the current at the power block also. The belts not broken rollers are fine the dryer is only a little over two years old. Whats next? Model is MEDC465HWO

Hi @williamhenry

Looking at the wiring diagram for the dryer it could be that the timer is faulty, maybe check if timer contacts B - C are closed as these affect both the motor and the heater circuit.

Hopefully this is of some help.

Timer tested good at least in regard to B and C being open when off and closed when on. So the main thing keeping me from expecting the motor to be bad is the heat. Wouldn't the element still heat if everything was working but the motor?

@williamhenry

If you look at the wiring diagram, the heater gets power through the motor centrifugal contacts 2m -1m so the motor needs to be turning for them to operate.

Is the motor humming trying to start?

If so check if the motor starts turning it you rotate the drum by hand to help it overcome the inertia.

Be careful when you try this ;-)

If it starts and runs then the start winding is open circuit.
