Should I do a complete disassembly to clean or just fan & heatsink?

I am getting a 2012 MacBook Pro soon and I want to clean it out since I don’t know the previous history. Should I just take out the fan and dust it out and dust the heat sink out or completely take it apart and clean? While it is far from the first time I have taken apart an Apple product (have done an iPhone 6 Plus logic board replacement and iPhone SE 2020 battery and a 2012 Mac mini disassembly) it is the first time I have done so to a MacBook and the instructions look kind of concerning with all the delicate connectors that many people in the comments have broken off. Thoughts?

The laptop you got has a repairability score of 7/10. This falls right in between the SE 2020 (6/10) and Mac Mini 2012 (8/10). Just take it slow and careful and you should be just fine. Looking at this guide that seems relevant to your question and my past experiences with devices similar to the ones you mention, it shouldn't be an issue of difficulty for you. Thank you. I fell like I just needed some reassurance that I will do this okay. I guess that similar comments about ripping off connectors were also on the mini and I haven't damaged anything. Good day.
