I just replaced the caps in my sega cd model 2 because it looked like a few had leaked, it was working fine before but wanted to do it now before it got worse, now it has a weird audio glitch and it won’t read discs

@cwr81 which capacitors did you replace? Post some good pictures of your work. Did you double check your work and your reassembly to make sure all is where it is supposed to be?

@oldturkey03 I added the pictures, I replaced all of the capacitors, I made the mistake of not testing after each cap but I did do them one by one to make sure I had the polarity correct.

@cwr81 that looks neat. One more thing and I know it's a pain but take a good closely zoomed picture of the boards bottom side. I am thinking solder bridge etc. Let's see...

I have added the pictures now of the bottom side

@oldturkey03 I have also tried another Genesis just to rule that out and still had the same effect so maybe I messed up a capacitor but I don’t know for sure

@cwr81 I'm posting this as an answer, as that is the only way I can attach images back.

I have marked a few suspect areas with red, both with squares as circles.
You can see close up that there are some places where the excess solder overlaps other traces and (although it should be safe-ish) it's not a good practice as it can cause hard-to-find problems.

I have gone through and reflowed anything that looked suspicious but still getting the same result unfortunately

- de

Ok so now I don’t know what I did but it suddenly is reading discs

- de

@geirandersen I got the games to play but the sound is still messed up

- de

@cwr81 since this started to work. Keep on redoing your caps. I know you are capable but some of those may not make proper contact or have a bit of a bridge. Take a good look at all of them. You would not be the first one that may reverse a cap or has a solder bridge :-)

I think a chip might be fried now, I’m having real bad video glitching and audio glitching, I’ve already spent too much time on this already so I may just use it for parts
