My iPod wont hold a charge.

My iPod is over 4 years old, and I'm pretty sure it needs a new battery AND charging port. I have the items in a list on amazon as it is slightly cheaper. Will there ever be a tutorial on how to replace the charging port?

Hi Bradley,

I don't work for iFixit and have no connection to them other than as a user and occasional contributor to the site.

That being said, from what I've seen don't hold your breath waiting for a charging port replacement guide. Thanks to Apple soldering the connecting cable to the logic board, that makes the repair significantly more difficult than simply unplugging a connector. It appears to be rare for the iFixit crew to put out a guide that requires soldering, and I suspect that even if they did, the large number of connections on the cable running to the charging port would deter them.

All in all, it looks like a somewhat challenging repair even for experienced do-it-yourselfers. Of course, if you wanted to tackle that repair and document it as you go, I'm sure many people would appreciate you creating a guide to that repair!

Best of luck with it, and let us know how it goes.

If your ipod charges when connecting the charger why replace the port? 4 years old, battery will definitely be worse for wear. I'd just replace the battery.

Remove any debris from the charging port on the bottom of your device. Restart your iPhone or iPod touch. Try a different USB cable or charger. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS

Will
