Weird Storage Size Issue with SSD

Hi I have a weird issue with my SSD drive. It is showing wrong size. Actual SSD drive showing 337 GB used, however when I select all folders, total size comes to 485 GB. It is very bizarre. Someone please shed some light on this topic. Thank you.

@ankitanks - What is your macOS version? I don't see the other volumes listed

- de

High Sierra 10.13.6

- de

High Sierra 10.13.6 is my version.

@ankitanks - OK that explains it! High Sierra is not a very good release. It has quite a few glitches and this is one of them. Even still it will work it just doesn't report things correctly.

See below for a second wacky issue!

Oh I never knew this. Thank you for your help. Anywhere I can read up on glitches of high sierra? Just want to educate myself.

I would look at the drive from within Disk Utility, there you can see a better view of your drive. You often will find there are other volumes besides the active volume OS-X/macOS is running from. As an example here's my 2012 MacBook Pro's drive

In my case I have a GUID/APFS volume you likely have a GUID/HFS+ volume.

High Sierra won't report the Intel graphics engine only the discrete GPU!

Yes correct, my disk utility shows exact same sizes too. How can HD is using 337 GB space in the Disk utility but all my folders put together is 485 GB.

- de

@ankitanks - It's not showing the other volumes independently it just rolls them up in the case of High Sierra so you show a deficit when looking at the volume and the other volume spaces are not visible.

As to what is the other hidden volumes? Yours still has the OS recovery volume so when you need to re-install the OS the base line files are from here. In a fresh Mojave install there are now Four volumes! Give this a read Boot disk layout on Intel and M1 Macs: High Sierra to Big Sur
