Apple Cinema Display works up til the OS

Hi

I have a apple Cinema Display here that I have been working on and it’s acting really strange

It works fine until I get to the OS,the screen turns black and I get this weird distorted pixel mess at th top of the screen

It never used to display anything but I cleaned the main board and ultrasonic cleaned it and it started working (kinda)

I have also tried looking for any shorts and I could find any

I believe it’s a firmware issue but I just want to make sure;-)

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks:-)

Hi

Just though I would leave a update

I ordered a HDMI adapter from the Cinema Display and now it works absolutely fine strangely enough

No idea why it wouldn’t work over DVI but over HDMI

Thanks to everyone who has helped:-)

So the order of your images are backwards correct? You see the Apple logo and then the screen goes black with the colored stripes.

If that's the case then this is a settings issue where the screen can't support the scan rate you've selected is to high within the display settings. Go into Safe mode to alter the displays setting to a lower value to see if that works.

The Cinema display series is limited to the following:

  • 20" - 1024 x 640, 1280 x 800, and 1680 x 1050
  • 23" - 1024 x 640, 1280 x 800, and 1920 x 1200
  • 30" - 1024 x 640, 1280 x 800, 1920 x 1200, 2048 x 1280, and 2560 x 1600

@danj

I have tried a couple times but I can’t seem to get my Mac Pro to detect the Cinema Display at the same time as the TV that I was going to try and use to change the resolution

@hellomacos - You'll need to plug in a higher res display to then lower the setting to one that is equal or less than what your Cinema Display can support.

I'm surprised going into Safe Mode with just the Cinema Display should have worked. Are you using the proper GPU board? Remember the Mac Pro's require the default GPU board

Original - NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, GeForce 8800 GT, Quadro FX 4500, or ATI Radeon X1900 XT

Early 2008 - ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, or NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600

Early 2009 - NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 or ATI Radeon HD 4870

2010 ~ 2012 - ATI Radeon HD 5770, ATI Radeon HD 5870

@danj

Il try the higher resolution display

I have a 5,1(2010) with a GTX680 whitch is mac flashed

If that matters

I will also add that once it loaded successfully the Cinema Display went black (completely off but LED indicator stayed on)so I plugged in a hi-resolution tv and the tv worked but the Cinema Display stayed black
