The Nuu Mobile A1+ is a $50 smartphone released in 2016. It is used as the PDM in the Omnipod Dash Insulin Delivery System. Note: The Nuu Mobile A1 and Nuu Mobile A1+ are the same except for the RAM specs, so repair guides under this device should work for both phones.

Where can I purchase a replacement battery?

I’m trying to find out where I can purchase a replacement battery for this device. This battery is in the device that my son uses for his insulin pump and we’re looking at taking a trip where the battery may not last long enough. We’ve got some other backup options (power banks) but since the battery already has a hard time keeping a charge I figured I would try to get a replacement for it as well. Attached below is a picture of the current battery, I’ve tried doing some searches but had little luck. Thanks!

Hi. Is there any know solution?

@rbvn Call up Omnipod and demand a replacement PDM. They should've sent you one already from the recall. If you just got your PDM, you might be in the clear.

The number is 1-800-591-3455

Just wanted to add some pictures of the cell in question (in case you're wondering, the data matrix code doesn't have any additional information):

Notes:

  • I have also had battery problems with all of my Omnipod Dash PDM battery life after a certain period of time, even though some of the batteries weren't in the device and the device was stored away in a box. I think the battery and/or device may have an issue.
  • I believe almost everyone using the Omnipod Dash has had a problem with battery life after using these PDMs for a while.
  • I highly suspect these batteries are used batteries that have been repackaged and sold with new devices. On every battery I took the wrapping off of, the metal has had a large number of scratches.
  • These batteries were only used with the Nuu Mobile A1 and A1+
  • The Nuu Mobile A1 and A1+ seem to be discontinued in the United States. This probably has something to do with the 3G shutdown in the United States.
  • The Nuu Mobile A1 and A1+ are still sold in Latin America

Edit: I tore the battery apart and the protection corcuit is based on a DW01 MOSFET

armytrixter let us know where in the world you are located . It might be easier to find once we know your geographic area. Anyhow, the battery seems to be identical to Alcatel Battery CAB32A0000C1 for the ParaOne Touch 99 601, OT-6010D, 916, 916D, 992D. Check places like this for a replacement. Do not let the different mAh throw you off. Little less storage capacity but it should at least fit.

I have the same problem and tried CAB32A0000C1. It fits but the connectors are in the wrong spot. For the Omnipod / Nuu A1 the connectors are in the center of the battery.

As I posted earlier, The Omnipod Dash PDM is nothing more than a NUU Mobile model A1 smart phone that has had all of the phone and camera functions disabled and runs only the Omnipod App. I contacted NUU Mobile customer service and they were kind enough to send me two new batteries free of charge. I don't know if they will do this for anyone else but they did it for me.

Hello all. I have been a Dash user since they originally made it available. According to insulet one of the very first. I was so glad to get rid of the huge Eros unit. My very first one the battery was good and it lasted me a long time until they sent me a replacement unit because there was a programming issue when we Bolus.

Every unit I have had since after that 1st one has not lasted battery wise for more than a couple of months. I call up and talk to Support and every time I tell them just to send me a replacement battery. Instead they always send me a replacement unit. So far with the last one being last week that I had to replace, they have sent me five units all together instead of five batteries throughout the years. If you need another battery you're not going to get it I've talked to everybody at Insulet and they say that they'll send you a battery and every one of the 4 other times I've asked they always sent a whole unit. This last time (my 5th) they said they would definitely send me just the battery. Once again they sent me a whole unit. I called back and talked to support again this time I was able to talk to a manager and he told me that since the Dash unit came out they have never had a part # for just the battery. He also told me that they have been aware for quite sometime now about the battery issues. His suggestion was to get the Omnipod 5 system he said that the problem doesn't exist with that PDM also depending on the model cellphone it can be used through the cell phone app after the initial setup through the Omnipod 5 PDM. Hope this helps.

I have had the same problem! The Dash, old technology from the getgo. The cell phone used has a removable battery. How many years ago did they do away with those phones? Tech support just read off screens. I also talked to managers. Because of it being a medical device, they state, only the battery that came with the unit can be used. That battery is no longer made. Even the cellular company that those phones came from have no spare batteries. Yes I contacted them as well. Only option I found, go on line to a third party selling the New OmniPod 5. My insurance said the new one wasn't covered yet. The only way those third party places get paid is if they can get you pushed through. I found one that got me one! Remember the New one operates off a Loop system with the Dexcom 6, which doesn't come with it. You can set it up manually.

The phone is an ultra budget phone ($50). The phone chip is an MT6580, a 6 year old chip with budget performance that can only do up to 3G.

The batteries are heavily scratched when the wrapping is peeled off, making me think these are used/reclaimed batteries, and the performance would lead me to believe such.

All around, I'm impressed that they thought such a terrible phone was good in a medical application.
