How to connect display driver board to iMac LCD and use as a monitor?

Hi

I have an old Imac lying around and I want to use it as an external HDMi monitor for different devices. I have looked on the internet and some folks have suggested to buy an LCD display driver board. The model number of my IMAC’s native lcd is lm215wf3 sd d1. Can anyone please guide me on this?

  1. Will this work? Is it too difficult to do as I don’t have an expertise.
  2. What all I will be needing to make it work?
  3. Where can I buy the LCD Driver board? (I live in India}
  4. Is it worth it?

@yogiwake if it is worth it depends on you. $50USD for a decent monitor that you can use for plenty of other thing would be worth it to me. It will also keep things out of the landfill and decrease the already abundant eWaste. So, yes!

What you are looking for is something like this straight and easy to install. Not sure where you can get it from in India but you can always try alibaba.com as well.

@yogiwake yes it is complete. Remember that there are more than one supplier and more than just one site. Look around and see if anything else is more appealing to you. Maybe closer etc. The link is just an example. The importance here is that you have the panel number since that is exactly what you need to find a universal driver board.
