Can't find trackpad cable for my A1398 that works

I split my machine open to replace a non-functional battery and ran my putty knife through the trackpad cable. I ordered a replacement per the PN# on the cable I cut, 821-1904-A. This however did not work, the trackpad has no movement/input at all.

What is more odd is I inadvertently I ordered an incorrect cable, 821-1610-A, and it works. However, due to the design of the cable, it’s too long and can’t be installed in the case as a solution.

I have also ordered a whole new trackpad assembly, thinking perhaps there was some relationship between the trackpad and the cable, again using the recommended part 821-1904-A and matching for my machine, Retina 15” MBP (Late-2014)

At this point it seems that there is either (a) a strange “in-betweener” cable that I need, or (b) there is some kind of system reset I need to do. I have already tried doing both the PRAM and SMC reset multiple times with the new trackpad assembly installed.

Thanks Dan, I ordered this and installed it, and while it does register clicks, the trackpad movement is erratic (which, I suppose, is superior over nothing?)

Is there a way to "calibrate" the trackpad? I currently do not have the battery in the machine, so the SMC has been reset a few times since installation.

@ckrew89 - go into your Preferences trackpad settings

Is there any interoperability between the keyboard and the trackpad? I don't see the trackpad in the settings pane. I'm wondering if I broke something else?

@ckrew89 - Disconnect the battery and lift off the trackpad cable connection to the logic board, take a few nice tight and in focus pictures of the logic board connector so we can check out the contacts for damage and likewise repeat this on the cable end side as well. Post them here in a fresh answer Agregar imágenes a una pregunta existente

@ckrew89 - Well the pics don't show any issues at the connector interfaces. What is your keyboard a US ANSI, a European ISO or a Japanese keyboard. Review this guide How to identify your Apple keyboard layout by country or region I'm wondering if your trackpad driver is messing things up.

Otherwise I think you need another part as this one maybe bad.
