Won't connect to wifi

My freinds Asus Rog 15’’ (forgot the name of the device) laptop will not connect to my home and school network.
It will connect through mobile hotspot.

The problem came when she updated to windows 11.

I have tried resetting the network adapters, changing drivers, changing dns, etc.
Run diagnostics through cmd, etc.

She previously had the same problem and fixed it by changing the network adapter driver to another one in the “browse” menu.
Based on what I remember from that time the laptop didn’t have an intel wifi adapter.

The computer uses an AMD processor, ryzen, and has a realtek manager in the network adapters list, but it lists “intel(r) wi-fi ——” as the only wi-fi option. Is it possible for an amd computer to use intel drivers for it’s network adapter?

Hi @sral94,

What is the model number of the laptop?

@jayeff After looking online, i believe it's an Asus Rog Strix G15 G513IM.

Apparently that one has a mediatek network adapter, which does not show up in the device manager.

@sral94

Did you check in Device Manager > View > Show hidden devices?

If the WLAN adapter is not in Device Manager, how is it that you can connect via WiFi to a hotspot??

Not sure if you meant that you reset the TCP/IP when you said "...resetting the network adapters...", if not try it and check if you can connect OK to your networks.

@jayeff That is what I am wondering as well. The laptop connects to a hotspot network without any problems, but it won't connect to any other WiFI.

I've reset the network through windows settings.

I've gone through the command promt neths, ipconfig reset, release, renew.

Switched drivers, uninstalled the network adapter and let windows install it again.

Used MyAsus diagnostics.

Updated the Bios.

Tried different DNS servers.

Checked WLAN auto config.

Adjusted power management.

sfc -scan, dism.exe.

And obviously all the settings on the router itself.

@sral94

So no appearance of the WLAN adapter in Device Manager?

Not under "Other Devices" (if listed category) or even under USB controllers perhaps.

What does it show if you are connected to the hotspot and then enter an ipconfig /all command from a Command prompt with administrator privileges. (right click on the Command prompt icon and select the option.

It should show the adapter that you're using, This link may help with what is displayed. Look for the WLAN information. It gives the description i.e. make and model of the adapter.

Are your networks appearing in the WiFi list but just not connecting or not appearing at all?

if not appearing check that they are not blocked
