Brand new home button working intermittently after install

I just purchased a replacement home button from ifixit and it worked for about 10 clicks, but stopped working. I took it back apart and double-checked the install and everything was correct. turned it back on to test and same issue. Worked for a few clicks then stopped again. Now it will randomly work on and off, but only for a few clicks then back to non-functional.

This was a new screen replacement also purchased from ifixit
