MacBook Air display problem?

Hello.

Macbook is having weird display error.

The error comes up randomly and restart the PC itself.

Screen is shaking, 5 cm bars will come to the display.

Someone have experienced similar issue? Gpu ? Display itself or bad ram?

Did the RAM reflow and now the macbook boots up fine.

The integrated graphics engine within the CPU chip uses part of the systems RAM for video RAM so what you are seeing is the corruption of the video image within the video RAM space.

Basically your RAM has a problem so you’ll need to find someone with the needed tools and parts to replace the RAM chips or I would get a replacement logic board as being the quicker path MacBook Air 13" (Mid 2012) 2.0 GHz Logic Board and here’s the guide MacBook Air 13" Mid 2012 Logic Board Replacement

Thank you for the answer.

Is it possible to reball the RAM? Or this is not permanent fix?

@kapuzta - Re-balling is the action of desoldering the chip cleaning off the old solder, then re-tinning the chip and the pads and re-soldering the chip back down.

The assumption is the solder joint failed. It's a lot of work doing each chip one by one. You really don't need to go to this length. A hot air station and a good flux is what I would go with, You still need good micro soldering skills as you can easily short out a connection. This is not a typical DIY project.

But keep in mind you are assuming a solder joint, what if the RAM chip its self failed? Now you need a replacement and you often need to replace all of them as the speed and the CAS/RAS of what Apple used for chips needs to be matched. You can't replace one with a different value.

Thank you Dan.

I have done the reflow and the macbook works well.

Hopefully it stays like that :).
