Laser power adjustment variable resistors on dvd player (SONY)?

An internal piece of the SONY DVP NS315 DVD player, khm 270aaa is a laser optical CD and DVD player. Contains two adjustment keys to adjust, laser power adjustment variable resistors. Using the multimeter (20k OHM), what is the default value for each of these adjustment knobs?

there is no “default” as the purpose of pots is to account for component variations and wear.

I believe one adjusts the reading intensity and the other the writing intensity.

There is a procedure in the manual, but I always just tweaked the write slightly and tried it till it worked.

That is usually the laser that gets weak.

There is no Write in DVD PLAYER :D

Those probably for tweak intensity for CD and DVD lasers

@Pablo you need to look in SERVICE MANUAL for that

These pots should NEVER be adjusted in the field if you want to properly repair them.

The pots do not adjust laser diode intensity. The laser power is automatically adjusted via an OPC circuit that uses a photodiode right next to the actual laser diode to measure laser output. The pots adjust the gain of the OPC circuit, which is done in the laser pickup factory, not the drive factory or DVD player factory.

Therefore the light intensity should remain constant up till the final hours of the laser diode. If the DVD player has trouble reading discs, it's usually dirty laser lens causing high losses along the optical paths.

There are several optical elements that are difficult to reach, not to mention cleaning without damaging the coatings on them. Just replace the laser altogether.

If person will end-up replacing laser pickup unit anyways so why not to have the person to poke around first :D

But good point about gain, you would have to reduce gain to have laser shine 'stronger' in this case.

@insideoute83341 the laser is dirt cheap here like $2 each, no need to bother tuning.

I bought a Sony Precision Cinema 5 disc CD/DVD player DVD DVP NC6615P some time ago. I have over 400 movie DVDs. Every movie I played was error free. I was paying around $80.00 for cable and decided to cancel cable and buy my favorite sitcom series and watch them all day. The sitcom DVDs were used but so are my movie DVDs. A lot of the sitcom DVDs would stick or not load. I went to Sony's website and typed in my problem. The answer was to turn the player off and hold down the Clear button on the remote and the Power button on the player until the message ALL CLEAR or ALL ERASE is displayed. I held the 2 buttons down for 3 - 5 minutes and neither message appeared. It doesn't stick as much as it did and I've had a couple DVDs that wouldn't load. I've played a couple of the nonfunctioning DVDs on my computer DVD player and they played fine. It's very frustrating when a DVD sticks or won't load so I'm going to get another player and post the 5 disc player on Etsy and/or Amazon explaining the problem and for half of what I paid for it. Maybe someone will know how to "fix" it and will have a 'like new' player for half price. I'm 72 years old and have had to remain calm to keep from smashing it on the floor. Hope this answer helps you Pablo. Good luck and stay calm.
