When I boot the PC it will not connect to the internet.
I have changed settings to try to connect, but it always reverts back to no connection. I assume this means the board needs to be replaced.

Your assumption may be incorrect. You don't mention if your Internet connection is wired or wireless. It could just be a driver issue (the most common fault by far).
Does the ethernet or wireless card show up in the Device manager - look in Control Panel?

version of windows?
what you were doing when it stopped working?
are you on wifi or hard wired ?
have you changed any hardware?
the more information you can give us the easier and faster the troubleshooting will be. for all we know right now you could have a virus thats messing with your computer OR your wired cat5 cable is faulty.

To help troubleshoot, try running the Windows Network Troubleshooter. Click on the Search icon at the bottom left of your screen. Then, Copy & Paste the following command into the Search box: msdt.exe -id NetworkDiagnosticsWeb
Follow the prompts to allow the program to find the problem.

A number of issues can cause this. A history would help narrow down some of these. You can start by going to your device manage and viewing NETWORK ADAPTERS to see if your wired or wireless adapter is listed and is operating normally. If it is there I would try updating it using search.
Your adapter might be disabled. Windows troubleshooter should detect that.
If it is wireless, try connecting a cable to it if available. That may help eliminate a hardware issue with your adapter. If it is wireless, are there any SSIDs listed when you click on the icon in your system tray? Did you accidentally put it into Airplane mode? Before trying to replace hardware try finding a newer driver and manually installing it. Delete the old one first rather than uninstalling it.
