Can the microphone be repaired/replaced?

I use these headphones for zoom meetings/phone calls etc. and everyone says they can’t hear me or can only partially hear me when I use the built-in microphone. Does anyone know how to fix, replace, or maybe even upgrade the mic?

I am running my third set of QC 35 and same issue happen on my first two sets. Couldn't fix it. Service said cheaper to buy second hand set than fix the mic. So i got a new ones, and again same issue happened. I am running a third set now. All 3 give nice sound and still work, but microphone is broken on two. First set lasted 2 years. Second set just 1 year. There seems to be some fundamental design flaw with QC series, as same issue twice is to much of a coincident. Resetting and Updating didnt work. Warranty has expired in both cases. Very disappointing. I wonder if it be possible to link a separate Bluetooth mic to the phone so it would be possible to run phone calls in a way that listening is via QC 35 headphones, but speaking via separate mic?

Hello Harrison,

Have you tried updating the firmware on the Headset? This can be done through the Bose app.

Does the issue persist only on Zoom or on other apps?

Does the issue persist on other devices such a mobile phone?

Please follow the troubleshooting steps below and see if that fixes it

  • Turn off the headset and wait 30 seconds
  • Plug the headset into a wall outlet using a USB charger, then wait 5 seconds
  • Unplug the USB cord from the headset and wait 1 minute
  • Turn on the headset

If after all that the issue with the microphone is not resolved, you most likely will need to either service it (if within warranty) or attempt to replace the microphone yourself.

Replacing the microphone yourself might be a very difficult task since the microphone is soldered on the logic board and it’s a MEMS microphone, a very small device.

Bose does not give out schematics or part information for their devices, so finding the right replacement part will prove difficult. If you find it, you will have to desolder the old microphone and solder the new one without damaging any other logic board components.

I updated the firmware and now they work fine. I didn’t realize you could do that through the app.

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it!
