After trying to update from Windows 8 the pc stopped working

The PC keeps turning off and turning back on without going to the start-up screen. It shows the hp logo and then shuts down to black and turns on again, hp logo, then back down. This happened when I tried to update from Windows 8 as this is a hand-me-down from a friend and was deleting files to make room. I do not believe I deleted anything of value just old word documents and apps like Twitter. I do not understand why this is happening.

Please help.

First you need to fix Windows 8:

General fixes if Windows won't start

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Press the F8 key before the Windows logo appears.
  3. At the Advanced Boot Options menu, select Last Known Good Configuration. The advanced boot options startup menu.
  4. Press Enter.

Does it boot to Windows 8 now?

If so follow these directions:

Hi Zaria,

More details are needed in order to determine what you actually did. Troubleshooting depends on information.

Such as, did you try to upgrade to Windows 10 from the Windows 8 Desktop?

Or did you boot from a USB flash drive with the W10 installation files on it?

How far exactly did you get into the installation?

What messages were displayed on the screen?

Did you run Windows 8 updates before?

Did you update all drivers before attempting the installatuion?

It was Windows 8 you had not 8.1?

Etc., etc.

The more I know the better chance I have of helping you.

Hello,

When I logged in it prompted me to update the OS, I assume that was the Windows 8 Desktop. It said there is no room for this, but here some files to delete. I went in and started deleting word documents, needless apps, etc.

I did not install Windows 10 at all because I reset the computer before I did that to make sure it would reset properly but then the problems began.

There were not any messages.

I did not run any updates as this was not my computer, it is a hand-me-down from a friend. I cannot say what they did or did not do.

I did not know that updating drivers was something that I should have done.

I do not remember but 8.1 does sound familiar.

@zcornwall

Did nothing appeared on the screen when pressing <F8>?

Timing is important with this.

When it prompted you to update were you at the Desktop, as in finished logging in?

Did you uninstall the apps correctly as in:
