My iMac is more noisy than when I bought it years ago.

it is because of the probable dust inside? would it be help to open it and make a good clean? (last week when I put at max speed the fans of the computer with a fan controller software, I saw dust coming out from the inferior part of the iMac)

I was thinking to bring it to a friend of mine who has computer shop. He would be much more experienced than me. He can also put some thermal paste if its needed. Would it help that make it more silent?

PS: it becomes noisy after some hours of working, not at the restart. But I usually never restart the iMac

Sounds like your fan may be packed full of dirt. I would open it up and blow it out. I've found that the dirtiest machines are from places where the machine is left on while house cleaning is done. A vacuum cleaner can put a lot of dirt into the ambient air and the computer sucks it up. Unless it has started overheating the thermal paste should be OK and is a job to replace.

ah ok so thermal paste isn't necessary!

ok thanks I will clean it up when I will upgrade the CPU so that I won't need to open it twice :)
