How do I download Mac OS on USB drive
How do I download Mac OS X 10.3 Panther (or any compatible OS for iMac G5) so I can boot straight from the USB drive? Where do I find this?

I would look for the original Grey CDs that came with the system or retail version of the OS. You might also find them online for sale.
The problem you face is you need to format the USB drive using a Mac so the format is correct and then install OS-X Panther onto it so its bootable and then copy over the OS installer to it from that working Mac. I’m sure you don’t have access to an older system with Panther or Lion on it.
You many need a new drive, consider the costs.

I do not have the original CDs or another Apple computer. I was thinking I could just find the software online, but if that won't work then I guess I'm stuck.
@carsman248 - Retal version of OS-X 10.3 Panther is your best bet. You can jump to OS-X 10.5.8 Leopard as the highest version your system will support as well. You'll need to again get the retail version of the CD's to install it.
