How to do a Clean install of Windows on a new SSD

I am trying to revive this old MacBook Air because I think they are cool. I have a new battery in, and I’ve got an SSD for it. I’ve got the windows install usb set ups nd plugged in, and I am able to make it to the boot options page where I can click on “EFI Boot” with a usb icon and then the computer freezes up. Mouse won’t move, no spinning ball, no activity light on the USB drive. This is the only boot option as the drive is brand new.

I have a windows PC and a newer MacBook Pro available to me for troubleshooting/drive creation/whatever would help. I figure as a last resort I will get a ribbon cable to SATA adapter and use my desktop to install windows onto the drive and put it back into the Air. Any links or advice are much appreciated. Thanks everyone!

So what you can do is, get a usb flash drive with windows (which u can easily obtain by going to Microsoft website https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software... ) once you download that onto the flash drive, plug it into your laptop, and when it goes to boot up press whatever key it says to launch boot options and select the flash drive and its pretty self explanatory from there because all you do from there is go through the setting up windows prompts, if you have any questions or need me to be more specific just ask away im more then willing to help

Once I select the USB drive to boot from the computer freezes. That is the main problem I am having. Thanks for the response

The old hard drive had died. There was no other option but to replace it. I was able to find an SSD made by Toshiba of the same form factor and connector. @zmentz

ok interesting, so basically what i can think of off the top of my mind would be try to install windows on the ssd from your desktop you said you had, and if that doesnt work let me know and ill do some further research on it

Maybe try another boot option such as some type of legacy boot instead of EFI? I have no clue for Macs but I did a fresh install of Windows on my laptop’s SSD and because of the drive or whatever I couldn’t boot it directly from UEFI, and had to boot with windows boot manager. I believe it had something to do with the partition format of the drive so if the legacy boot doesn’t work, try changing the drive boot partition type (I remember doing this in Windows and then being able to boot directly, but it was a long time ago and I don’t remember the name of the process I did sorry)
