tsstcorp dvd +-rw ts-l632h ata device driver problem

My dvd drive worked fine all the time and now it suddenly stopped. I keep getting a registry error saying it can't read the driver and that it's either corrupted or damaged. I tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it but that didn't help. I have had a similar problem with a desktop computer and what it turned out to be is a system variable needed to be reset but you had to know exactly where in the registry it was. Has anyone run into this problem and knows what to reset?
