Camera not detected after Catalina upgrade

i have a 2016 13” MacBook Pro, my camera is not detected in system report: No video capture devices were found

This started after upgrading to Catalina, otherwise it’s worked fine since, and it hasn’t moved very much, no rough treatment.

i’ve run disk utility, and reset NVRAM or whatever it’s called these days. i ran diagnostics and it asked me to reinstall system software, but hung on the link. is there a driver i can try reinstalling?

Our MBP Touchbar 2017 would not reveal any settings for the onboard camera so it looked like there wasn't one. This made Zoom setup frustrating during the stay-home-stay-safe last spring.

When a standalone webcam was plugged in, suddenly the MBP camera's existence was revealed.

I doubt you have a driver issue, more likely the cable to the lid failed. Apple had a fair amount of failures of the backlight cable 2018 MacBook Pros Try to Solve Flexgate Without Admitting It Exists while the cable here is not the same cable it is exactly the same mirrored on the other side (Blue marked)

Your the second person who encountered I know of that experienced this failure.

Sadly its time for a new display assembly, Ouch!

This article seems to be about the display not working. The display itself works great. There's nothing about the camera in this article.

@zignorp - You are very right there is nothing in the article about a failed camera!

Now step back and look at this from a mirror perspective!

If the Right backlight cable is exactly the same as the Left FaceTime cable in length and design would it be so far for the same problem to happen with it?

As I stated (I thought clearly) you'll be the second person which encountered a failed camera cable! Due to the exact same issue as the backlight cable!

Hi,

I have the exact same issue, on my 2016 13” MacBook Pro touch bar.

No camera detected in System Information, but the screen is working perfectly fine.

After inspecting the display cables, I see that the Facetime Camera is clearly broken while the LED light cable is not.

Thanks to your comment I was able to identify the problem. Thank you, Dan!

exact same problem... isn't there anything else that can be done except changing the entire *!&$!&$^ screen?! what a bad design decision from apple, yet again!

Unfortunately 😕

My story ends by replacing the wire from motherboard to screen. I have the photo of my problem but can’t attach to this message

Problem was the broken wires from motherboard to the screen, my friend fixed it without screen replacement.
