(Solved) Why Is my Front Facing camera not working after a lcd repair?

When replacing screen with an OEM Service pack from a reputable supplier, I have lost the functionality of my selfie camera. While testing in old screen, selfie camera works. I have double checked my supplier and found that this screen only works on non-verizon models. This OEM Service pack comes with a camera not compatible with the verizon main-board. Solution is to get a screen that is compatible which isn’t available at time of posting.

I faced the same issue with a customer's S20+. Display-assembly replacement came with small-parts, including a front-facing camera. After installing everything into the replacement display, everything worked except the front-facing camera. So I took it apart again and swapped in the old front-facing camera. Just takes some heat and careful prying. I removed the epoxy first, using curved tweezers, and saved it. The camera popped right out by gently prying it with a plastic spudger. Installed the original camera into the replacement display-assembly, and stuffed the epoxy back in. Everything worked out.

I repiaced old original camera in my display frame. but did't work. If I clean the the cache memory and clean all setting from app>camera>storage>clean cache, then the all backs camera works. but when I switch front camera then it hang and still on blurry back camera. and then I open again camera app, only black display appear. and clean cache work back camera again.

@Asaduzzaman Rupu I'm only a general repair tech (no knowledge of microsoldering, yet), so aside from the obvious connector checking, I haven't the foggiest. Could potentially be a damaged original camera. I would try to source the appropriate front camera for your region. From past experience, when the camera app crashes, and the cache clearing doesn't solve it, it is likely a faulty camera (hopefully nothing board related anyway).

Hi guys, so I was in the same rut after replacing my s20 plus screen. The rear and selfie cameras failed to work. I did the cache swipe and factory reset but still the problem persisted. Camera failed. I then downloaded a bunch of camera apps and hit pay dirt with one of them, Open camera it's called. I hit the camera button with the plus on it setting located just above the button to snap a photo . Works great!

it is epoxied into place but theoretically if you were able to remove the old one without damage and the new screen doesn't have one installed or was easily removable you should be able to but i haven't tried

its repairable. there are 2 different versions of the front camera. most aftermarket lcd assemblys come with the international or over seas version of the while the device was probably a US version ( u or u1) Just oder a replacement camera and make sure it’s for the specific version of the phone.

I didn't replace a screen either. I just tried to replace the camera. Now I have the exact same problem, even though I put the old camera back in.

i believe the issue here is the cameras on the OEM screens are the international cameras, you should be able to replace it with a us camera, (just replaced one in a S20 Plus Ultra

Try using different apps before u tear ur phone apart again guys. I did all that other stuff and didn't work at all after replacing s20 plus screen. Google play 'open camera' app .. got my rear cameras functioning again. There a camera with a plus botton setting located just above the button to snap a picture is what I hit. Maybe it will work for someone else as well I've spent way too much money on phone parts so this was a nice find

Hi. My front camera worked just fine as i facetime my kids just minutes before my screen got cracked. Had it replaced now twice cause of front camera not working and "camera failed" pops up when opening camera app. Cleared cache, safe mode and did the factory reset. Nothing. Can it be the screen itself?

I'm having this same issue on the US version. I ordered the Samsung service pack which I assume is the international version of the screen and frame. I removed and reinstalled my original (US version) front-facing camera and it does not focus in the new screen/frame.

Has it been determined that the US version front facing camera does not function properly in the international version screen/frame?

If your camera works but will not focus, you likely forgot the epoxy. When you removed your original camera from the original screen, it had a bunch of stuff around it that you likely had to pry out with your tweezers. That substance is epoxy, and it holds the camera in it's carefully calibrated position. If you did not transfer that epoxy to the new screen, then the camera's calibration is all out of whack and it cannot focus. Even if your new screen came with a camera and epoxy, that epoxy will be to fill the gap for the new camera's calibration, and it will not be the same for your original camera.

If you still have the original frame, go back and carefully remove the epoxy, and transfer it to the new screen, and you should be able to focus properly again. If you do not, you can carefully cut out some foam (packing peanut), though it takes trial and error. You can get it to focus again by jerry-rigging an epoxy-substitute. Though it will likely never be as good as the original, it could still be passable.
