Power button isn’t working — what’s the cause and how hard to replace?
Hello!
So, my power button stopped responding. I couldn’t even turn my pc off and now I can’t turn it on.
I tried to plug out the power cable, press the button with different pressure and from different angles — no effect.
I can’t think of any prior events that could’ve caused that: I didn’t spill water or mechanically damage iMac. It was just staying still on my table.
I don’t want to go to service center, maybe someone had the same issue? Because I’m kinda lost in where to start and how to identify the problem.
What would you do?
And how hard is it to replace the button?
Es esta una buena pregunta?

Do you hear the fan or see any alteration to the display when you try to turn the system on? If you don't hear or see any reaction that often implies the power supply has failed. You'll need to think through if you are up to fixing your system. Taking off the display to get inside is tricky! Its very easy to damage if you don't use the correct tools and techniques. Review this guide to get an idea how much effort is needed Reemplazo de pantalla del iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2638. You'll also need a set of new adhesive strips and the special pizza cutter tool [producto vinculado inexistente o deshabilitado: IF173-005] and two sets of Plastic Cards before you even start.

Point is, when button stopped responding, my pc was turned on working just fine. I just thought it’s nothing serious and turned pc off using keyboard.
Now, since there is no response from the button, I can’t launch pc. There is no reaction, no fan sound.
I already have experience removing the screen, etc. I’m just curious what might be wrong with the button and how hard is it to replace.
Since problem occurred when pc was already launched, is it really about power supply? Sorry, I might be missing something)

Open the system and inspect the onboard diagnostic LED's what are they telling you?

I’ll get the right tools and check.
You are probably right in your answer — it’s a good start to assume the most common power supply issue.
What I don’t understand is how could I keep using my pc if power supply failed? Is that even possible? In my imagination pc would just shut down.
Here, though, only button stopped responding. Everything else was fine. I guess if I didn’t shut it down manually and kept using sleep mode, I wouldn’t even care about the button.

Gave it to service center and yes, it was part of the power supply. Something melted due high temperature.
Thank you!
