Is cell signal quality and the placement of the Network Antenna?

I have the 1st gen SE (i love the size) but i bought the new 2020 SE but i havent set it up yet. My worry is in regards to the placement of the cellular antenna compared to one another and even compared to an iphone 6s. I live in the woods and my 1st gen SE is the only phone in the house that gets LTE signal (in certain windows). I dont want to start the new one up and have my service auto switch just to have no signal. A family member has an iphone 6s that gets no signal at all with same service provider ( only verizon out here) so i was also curious where the antenna was on it as well, to see if the placement of the antenna even has anything to do with its lack of signal or not. Any thoughts?

The 2020 SE is based on the iPhone 8 frame and antennas.

The original SE and the newer 2020 model use the same antenna design. The frame band is in fact four segments! If you look carefully you can see the breaks in the SE teardown (white gaps) and in the 2020 version the plastic is color matched! The top and bottom bands are the cellular antennas.

So from this perspective the only issue is the carriers cellular frequency bands available in your area and the ones the given phone supports. If you bought a Verizon iPhone you should be fine. But don’t you want something better than stand near a window??

So what to do??

Do you have cable internet? If you do you can now leverage it with many of the providers. Basically, you are using the phones WiFi connection to your WiFi router to then do a VoIP connection to your providers gateway to then connect to the person who you are calling or are calling you! Here’s the info on Verizon Wi-Fi Calling

I have WiFi calling with T-Mobile and its great! Even my Apple Watch which has a very limited antenna works quite well.
