Replacement HDD for MacBook Air A1237 not recognized

Hi All

I have just replaced the HDD on my MBA A1237 with exactly the same type/size of HDD as the original.

Closed the MBA up and restarted and DU is not picking up the new HDD.

I have taken the MBA apart three times now to make sure it's all connected fine and I am not getting DU to pick the drive up.

I followed the instructioned from iFixit:

http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook-Air-... ement/860/1

I have also now tried to replace the old HDD to see if maybe I bent the HDD cable and that also is not regognized now :-(

Any ideas anyone?

This is a longshot, but make sure you have not installed the hard drive upside down, and therefore with the cable backwards inside the drive. Unfortunately the mounting bracket lets you install it either way, so if you forget how it was in there originally, it's easy to install it upside down, in which case it won't see the drive.

I made this mistake once, and I actually ended up returning a drive and getting a new one before realizing it was just upside down.

Hi rdklinc, many thanks for the reply. I have tried the drive both ways and neither works as I initialy had the same thought as yourself that maybe I had installed it upside down. I think I may have damage the flex cable perhaps so I have ordered a replacement and will see how that goes,

I guess it must be the cable then. Make sure you're pushing it all the way into the drive slot, since it's easy to clamp the cable down when it's not really all the way in. Also, for testing, you might want to leave the drive out of the bracket, just to verify that putting the drive in the bracket is not pulling the cable out (which it can do if you're not careful...again there's not much give in the cable, so half a millimeter can make all the difference).

I've had the exact same thing happen today. Tried to replace the HD, and the new HD was not recognized. Put the old one back in with same issue. Not upside down. Ordering new cable. Crossing fingers...
