Mac Mini no display or chime

Hi,

I have Late 2014 Mac Mini. As soon as it gets power it automatically turns on and fans starts spinning. Black display lights up with no chime and keyboard caps light doesn't turn on (it means keyboard is not getting power). When I connect my WD External hard drive its light starts blinking.

I also tried booting with macos bootable usb but no success.

What could be the problem?

Any help would be appreciated because there is no official Apple Store in my country.

TIA!

Can you give us a bit more here, did you alter anything internally? change the drive and RAM?

Do you have the system and its display on a surge suppressor or UPS?

Did you hear a noise or smell anything burnt?

@danj No its RAM is soldered on the board and the person who sold it to me said he was doing something with clover bootloader anything like that. System and display is directly connected with main supply no UPS etc.

1. Did it ever work before?

2. Did you buy it broken?

3. First remove all keyboards and check if no port or connector is broken and clean. Then try SMC reset:

4. Open and see for any smell as Dan says.

5. Open and gently unplug and replug every part.

@bmx2019

1. Yes, I bought it from my friend and I also used it myself a lot.

2. Yes.

3. I disassembled it and none of the connector is broken. I am getting power from all four but keyboard is not connecting.

4. It smells normal no bad smell.

5. Yes I opened it already and disconnected the hard drive and tried to boot from bootable Usb but no luck.

It has been awhile I’ve seen a corrupted firmware due to the Clover boot-loader.

Do you have access to a second Mac you can connect yours to using Target Disk Mode? Hopefully you can get your mini into TDM using a wired keyboard pressing the T key when your start your system. If not then the damage maybe to much that we can’t recover the systems EFI firmware (BIOS).

Reference:

If you can’t get to TDM then you’ll need to either replace the logic board or find someone with the skills and tools to re-burn your systems firmware.

Here’s one source for the logic board Late 2014 Mac Mini logic boards and here’s the guide Mac mini Late 2014 Logic Board Replacement

Unfortunately I don't have access to another Mac.

Could firmware be the real problem?

How can I reburn firmware?

Is it stored on EFI Chip?

- de

Sadly, Clover did you in!

The EFI chip is where the firmware lives. This firmware is what your system loads up to gain the needed smarts to then load your drives OS files.

The Clover boot-loader intercepts the load command to then load alternate OS's. If wasn't very good as it would damage things within the EFI.

What I was going we could make sure if that was the case but thats off the table as you don't have a second Mac.

At this point you'll need to find someone local to help you or just bite the bullet and replace the logic board.
