How do I fix a jammed sync button on my Xbox One S controller?

I have watched several tutorials that have not helped. My controller was previously paired to my Xbox, which is unplugged, so my controller has nothing to connect to. I want to use its bluetooth functionality to connect it to my iPad 7 (with iPadOS 13) or my iPhone 7 (with iOS 13).

I’ve read that you must hold down the sync button to pair it to another device. I have tried prying the button out a bit, as suggested in many videos, but it will only stay up while I am holding it with a flat-head screwdriver. I am not sure if the button even works anymore, and it has been scuffed a lot from repeated attempts of prying it.

After temporarily prying up the button and then pressing it, the controller doesn’t seem to recognize it. If the button has been jammed, does the controller think it is being constantly held down?

Also, I know that when pairing a controller for the first time, you only need to hold down the Xbox home button to immediately begin the pairing process. So, to avoid using the sync button, is there any way to “reset“ the controller as if it has never been paired so I can use the Xbox home button instead?

Thanks in advance.

I also fixed the jammed pair button just by removing the front small cover and just get rid of the small button. Seems it was stuck and constantly pushing down the inner button of the board. Works just fine now and if i want to pair ill do it with a toothpick

Haha I'm having the same issue. I even pried open the cover over/around the sync button on the top of the controller. My button then moved up and down loosely but has lost the clicking sound and is unresponsive when I press it (even very hard). No idea if it feels like it's being constantly pressed. My guess is there's a problem underneath where the actual click takes place. If you've found a solution I'd love to know

I’ve found a solution when trying to sync to the xbox you need to have a usb cable and have both the xbox and controller trying to sync then plug in your controller and wait for it to sync

I have the same problem, at first I could still sync and use the controller via USB cable and on pc by adding the device. However now it just constantly flashes syncing, even after I add the device in windows and it says paired it keeps flashing and won’t work. So I am guessing the button is jammed down and I’m not sure how to get it unstuck except by maybe prying off the entire button. I don’t think you could repair the button without being really good at soldering and attaching a new button taken from another controller since now one sells the part on its own. I think it’s the weakest button on the controller sadly and not the best design that it gets jammed on rather than just breaking.

I actually just ended opening the controller because it was basically broken. After taking out the button spring thing and just putting it back in ( looking exactly how it did when I took it out ) it just started working again. I really dont know what changed but if the controll is already screwed its actually really easy to open and have a look at and attempt to repair the switch and spring for it.

I got a controller that had a broken sync button and I had the opportunity to fix it. If no trick worked from the outside, you will probably need to take a look from the inside. On mine, the button was push so hard that a part of it detached from the board and it was the reason why the button was « stuck ». All I got to do to repair it was to reattach it to the board. I actually only had 1 solder joint to do (depending of which part of the button is damage it could have maybe even work with a tiny bit of hot glue). If you want to know if you have the capacity to do this repair, you can watch this video : https://youtu.be/yilEo_n_364

It’s clearly showing the inner of the Xbox One controller and how you can access the sync button to fix it. :)

My xbox one controller has been broken for a while.. i been using it to sync Bluetooth connection to use my moga controller through hardwire .. the panel where the bumpers and sync will be is off from being broken .. the sync button fell out and had a clean remove where three metal connectors will be on the board .. use a small and thin flat head screwdriver . Gently place on the three connectors and move side to side left to right. it will turn on sync mode for you
