Has anyone else experienced wifi card failures in this model?

I’ve had a total of 4 of this particular model in for repair that has failing wifi connectivity. If I take it apart and reseat everything, and even done a full re-install; the issue still persists. Seeing as the wifi card is part of the actual logic board in this design, I’m assuming the only solution to fix this is to replace the logic board. Does anyone else have another solution?

Update (06/21/2019)

Ya,

It will work intermittently, and sometimes it won't download files. speediest.net (can't connect to server).

I successfully managed to download Google Chrome, but then it won't install.

I had Steve Corral come in here a couple of years ago with 2 MacBooks, same year, with x'ed out wifi - same model as this one I'm tinkering with.

It was under warranty so I was able to replace the board for him. I haven't heard from him since then so I'm assuming that solved it.

This one is not as bad as his, but it still isn't functioning like it should. It sees all the available wireless networks, connects, and then won't download stuff, or do something like speediest.net. There are not restrictions in the safari settings and everything should work, but it just doesn't.

I think this issue might be software related somehow or it could be the hard drive.

When I boot externally to another operating system I don’t have any of the issues. Everything works.

I’ll keep you guys posted, and thanks for your input.

Are you sure the WiFi services is going out on the logic board?

Click on the menu WiFi icon pressing the Option key first. It will let you see the other AP's broadcasting and show you signal levels.

I would get both of these App Store Utilities:

WiFi Signal

WiFi Explorer

See if you are still working just unable to connect to the AP you want to connect to. Let us know what you discover.

I had one come in yesterday with intermittent wi=fi failures and Safari wouldn’t open. I did a Safe Boot by holding down the Shift Key on start up and Safari opened. Install Symantec Endpoint Protection and removed five viruses and it’s working fine now.

@pcmactech - You gave me another great clue on whats happening here!

One of the problems with the MacBook’s is many people buy the smallest storage option and then load it up with to much stuff! This is not just a Macbook issue, any Mac can encounter this problem as the system can run out of storage resources to run!

Look at the amount of storage the system has and how much free space is present. SSD systems need free space to work properly. Often times the system gets locked up trying to do wear leveling (system gets hot with no reason)

To solve this problem you’ll need to backup the users data and reformat the drive. When you restore the users stuff hold off installing any of the users data (restoring only the user account info & apps). The system should be responding normally.

Basically, you want to leave 1/3 of the drive free for the smaller 128 GB drived systems and you can state by with 1/4 on the larger 512 GB and 1 TB systems.
