Do I need an OWC in line cable?
Hi
I would like to replace the hard drive in my iMac with another HDD. I’ve started to dismante it and have removed the HDD, but did not see any sensors on it.
Its an iMac Mid 2011, A1312, 27”
I am going to replace it with a non Apple HDD, I believe I’d have to use an OWC in line cable so it can read out the temp.
Aswell as the HDD replacement, I am going to install a SSD behind the ODD. Do I also need an OWC cable here?
If I need both, then I might just replace the HDD with the SSD with one OWC cable.
Can it be confirmed that the cabling in this order is correct? Logic board > SATA (PWR/Data) > OWC Cable > SSD?
Can I use another cable that does the same job but is cheaper?
I’ve also read that there is software available to adjust the fans as they will blast. In the long term will this affect the fans?
Many thanks!
