Why is my tablet freezing up all the time?

My wife has a similar problem with her Galaxy Tab E. It usually happens while she is playing Scrabble. The whole device freezes and will not respond to any key, but something must be happening as it is draining the battery very quickly. After about 10 minutes it suddenly starts to work normally again but shortly afterwards it freezes once more. I need some advice in the interests of domestic harmony!
