Unknown small component came loose

I don't know what it is, or even whether it fell off the motherboard (probably) or elsewhere. It is a small diode or capacitor or transistor or ??? It is cylindrical silver on top, and has 2 pins to insert it into a board. It is labeled in 3 row of print:

271

100

2 5z

There are 11 components of identical size, shape and color (but not labeled the same as this) sprinkled between the PCI card slots

Without this part, the computer simply won't even begin to boot. Turn it on and nothing happens at all.

Does anyone know what this part is and where it goes?

Look for two small empty holes on the logic board and your video card. A quick solder job should fix it. The ones on video cards get knocked off a lot easier.

I have looked very carefully at both the logic board and the video card. There are just no small holes. I notice that all of the similar components are located inside the outline of a square drawn on the board, so it should be pretty easy to find 2 holes inside one of these squares.

I have not removed the heat sink. I don't trust myself to be able to replace it even though it appears to be held in place by just 5 screws. Nonetheless, is my next job to remove the heat sink and look at that part of the board? It just seems strange that a part would fall off in that protected area.

I was hoping someone might have a similar MDD and be able to spot the part with the identifier I gave.

I've got three here, different speeds. Take some pictures of the video card and the board and upload them. Also is the machine single or dual processor and what speed is it?

Thanks for the response. My computer is a dual 867 MHz. I didn't see a place to upload pics to ifixit, so I just assumed one couldn't. I just read "Formatting help" and it says one can only use links and font styles in a comment. Can you please tell me how to upload pics?

In the lower left hand corner of your screen is a tab called Images. Click on it to find out how to upload.

Bud Simrin, sorry I could not resist. I am sure you are not using XP but this is where the tab is that mayer is talking about. On my desktop anyway....good luck with your part.

I can't find any tabs at all on my screen. When I search for "images", only your text shows up. I tried Safari, Firefox, and Navigator on my Mac, and now I'm even using Internet Explorer in VMWareFusion. I don't ever remember having trouble on a web site finding out how to upload photos. Strange. I even clicked on my name icon and the web site does not give me any way to upload a pic.
