My MacBook Pro is dead after a trackpad replacement...

Got the MacBook back from Apple. They replaced the screen from the anti-glare coating "recall".

I replaced the trackpad last night but now it won't power on. The only issue I can think of is I went to heavy on the alcohol to remove the battery and it seeped to the logic board or something went loose. I used the old battery for now…

However, after I finished, it took a while for it to power on since I drained the battery. I reset SMC and PRAM, etc etc etc. It took a while but when it finally came on, it died as we entered the password. It came on a second time and everything seemed to be functioning including the new trackpad. Then, as we went into Chrome to type in the search bar, it died. Ever since then, nothing. No start up chimes, no sound inside when you press the power button. I tried with the battery on, off, no bottom case lid, with it on, with and without the bottom lid screws. I did notice that SMC reset would not have an affect on the green/orange light on the Magsafe.

I let it sit overnight without the battery and it still wont power on, but now the SMC reset does work. What could it be?

Are you plugging it into the wall with the batter disconnected and attempting to power the unit on?

I tried it without the battery and it wouldn't power on. Are there further steps to take when attempting to turn it on without the battery?

Have you tried plugging it in with the top case or trackpad flex disconnected from the logic board? If some of the alcohol leaked into the top case and shorted it or shorted the trackpad, they could be keeping it from turning on. Essentially you could try disconnecting everything except fan and magsafe board to logic board, and if you plug it in to power and the board doesn’t start up, do a hunt for “power on pads” or “jumper pads”. Short those to try and get it to power on. If that still doesn’t work, logic board would need repair.

The new trackpad worked the two times it managed to turn on and was not affected by the alcohol. The keyboard also worked during this time. Given this, does any of the above change?

I wonder if Apple's replacement of the screen added to the issue?

Hmm, sounds like it could still be a short. To make sure the logic board is okay I'd still suggest trying to boot the logic board, fan and magsafe. If the fan doesn't spin as soon as the magsafe is connected, look up the jumper pads location and use a non-ESD safe tool to short those two pads, or use a bent paper clip to touch both pads at the same time.

If the fans spin, it could be signs that the top case or trackpad are still the issue.

If the board doesn't come back on line, it's time to repair that.
