20” iMac 2.66 Ghz 2GB & 320 GB HDD
How can I fix overheating in my 20” iMac desktop?
When I switch the unit on I get the initial sound, the screen lights up and then I get a folder with a flashing question mark in it.

This is initially not an overheating problem, it hasn’t had enough time to heat up. Your machine cannot find a valid startup folder. Probable failed hard drive or corrupted system.
If you still have it, insert your original system installation disk and hold down the C key while booting. Go to the second screen of the installation. The pull down menu will appear. Go under Utilities to Disk Utility and see if you can repair your drive first.

Thanks for helping. I Had to order system installation disk and tried fixing it. I made it as far as disk utility pulldown and attempted to repairing the drive but got stuck as to how this is done. Is there a guide that I can follow?
