Is my power supply not well docked or just dead?

I just received a power supply which I ordered from here a few days ago (excellent speed, I might add).

I did all the replacement seemingly well, everything looks as it did before.

But when I turned it on, it turned off again instantly. So I went back and did the LED tests (first the second light didn't come on at all, and I thought that I had somehow killed the logic board) but then it just does the coming on half a second and going off.

This is a "brand new" refurbished power supply, any ideas?

Thanks,

Norbi

With my old power supply - if I didn't use it for a couple days, I could get a good 20 minutes of use out of my iMac, if I was just listening to music or writing. But then the screen would start to flicker and then it would turn off. I guessed this is because the power supply stores some power over time? (honestly I have no ideas of the working of such things).

However after changing to the new power supply, which came from iFixit, I just get the light comes on and goes off instantly :-(

I would really appreciate a comment from Mr iFixit himself if possible..

Thanks for your time,

Norbi

Examine the caps on your logic board for swelling and/or corrosion. See if your serial number is in this range:

Serial Number ranges:

W8435xxxxxx – W8522xxxxxx

QP435xxxxxx – QP522xxxxxx

CK435xxxxxx – CK522xxxxxx

YD435xxxxxx – YD522xxxxxx

Pop the back off and look at the capacitor and examine for swelling and/or corrosion. To the upper center of the logic board you should see an arrow. This points to the diagnostic lights (four of them). To the left you should see two buttons. One resets the logic board and one starts it up. Plug the machine and push the buttons and see what the do and tell us ;-)

Norbi,

I have same problem, have also replaced mother board but still get nothing. There must be something other than mother board and power supply but I can't seem to find any other cause.

After changing my bad power supply and still getting weird shutdown the above solutions seems to have worked.
