Replaced Thunderbolt Display/Magsafe Cable Now Keeps Power Off

This Thunderbolt Display was having intermittent issues with “glitchy” or “scattered” graphics when connected to a Thunderbolt Port.

However, when connected to a Mac using the peripheral Thunderbolt port, everything worked fine. Tested and concluded that the problem was A1407 (Thunderbolt Cable with Magsafe Cable Connector).

Replaced that pair of cables, and now the display will power on (i.e. fan runs) for about 13 seconds, and then powers off. In addition, now nothing is detected when it is connected to a Mac Thunderbolt Port.

All internal cable connections seem to be fine, and the problem still occurs even when the original cable pair is reconnected. Any thoughts on what’s going on?

You stated the TD would have a glitchy graphics I assume you mean the screens image was messed up. You also stated the when connected to the Mac it was fine. Are you suing two different systems or is your second comment implying the Mac on its own is OK?

Thanks for the response! To clarify, the TD LCD would function flawlessly when a peripheral Thunderbolt cable was connected to the port on the rear enclosure. It was only exhibiting graphics display issues when the combined TD/Magsafe connector cable was in use. They primary internal/external cable has since been replaced, but upon reassembly, there seems to be brief power, followed by a loss power. My thought is that there may be an internal sensor that does not like something about the configuration that has changed. Thoughts?

I doubt the cable was your issue. I’m suspecting your logic board has an issue.

Thanks for the response. That is also a possibility I have considered. The only things keeping me from arriving definitively at that conclusion are:

a) The display from the peripheral external port worked fine prior to replacing the internal/external cable.

b) After reassembly, there is no display at all regardless of whether the new or previously installed cable is being used.

Thoughts? Thanks!

So you used a Thunderbolt cable and plugged it into one of the ports of the display and then connected the other end into your systems port? What is your system and was the cable by chance did you use a DisplayPort cable instead of a Thunderbolt? Check the Icon on the cable.
