iPhone 6 short circuit - is the data recoverable?

My phone was underwater for about 10 seconds and since then has been completely dead. I tried sending it to a repair place, and they said they weren’t able to fix it. Specifically, there is a short on the PP1V8 SDRAM. I’ve given up and gotten a new phone, but I’d still like to get all my contacts and photos off the old phone (they aren’t backed up anywhere). Given this damage, is that memory intact?

PP1V8_SDRAM gets used by a lot of IC’s, including the CPU and the SDRAM. Depending on what’s causing the short, it may or may not be possible to recover the data.

If the micro-soldering tech is experienced with these kinds of issue, then it may very well be unrecoverable. However, when data is valuable, it’s always worthwhile to get a second opinion.

As for recovery, look locally for a reputable shop. Ideally, you want to find someone local but good experience and skills trumps location. There are many shops worldwide that do this so you shouldn't have any problems finding them.

If you can't find one locally, then consider mail-in repair. There are several reputable micro-solderers patrolling this forum.  You can also click on my profile to learn more about my services, at the very least, it can serve as a data point.
